About TisFile

What started with 3D printing became something bigger: a future where you can see any product in 3D and make it your own.

The Story

TisFile started with a simple frustration. While designing a pen holder for 3D printing, I wanted to add a custom logo to it. What seemed like a straightforward task turned into hours of CAD work, importing SVGs, figuring out boolean operations, and troubleshooting mesh errors.

“If I struggled with this as a software engineer, how would merchants and their customers handle it?”

That question led to TisFile. The idea is simple: merchants who sell 3D printed products should be able to offer customization without requiring their customers to learn CAD software. A customer uploads their logo, previews it on the 3D model in real-time, and gets a print-ready STL file.

TisFile handles the technical complexity behind the scenes — the OpenSCAD rendering, the SVG processing, the 3D transformations — so merchants can focus on what they do best: creating and selling products.

But the more I built, the more the “3D-printed” part started to feel like the wrong limit. What actually felt like magic wasn’t the printing — it was seeing an object on a screen and making it your own. Why should that be reserved for things you can print, or for people who own a printer and know their way around CAD? I wanted anyone to be able to do it, with any product.

So I built TisFile Studio. You give it a single product photo, and AI turns it into an interactive 3D model your customers can spin, recolor, and personalize — their logo, their text, their colors — right on your store. No CAD, no printer, no 3D expertise: a photo goes in, and a shoppable, customizable object comes out.

This is the part I care about most, because I think it’s where shopping is heading. For years, buying online has meant a flat photo and a “Buy” button — you commit before you ever really see the thing. It doesn’t have to be that way.

“The future of shopping isn’t a photo of a product. It’s the product itself — in 3D, in your hands, made yours before you ever check out.”

TisFile Studio handles the hard parts — the AI, the 3D, the rendering — so any merchant can offer that experience, and any customer can use it. That’s the future I’m building toward.
